Our impact on student’s education

“ICU2 is an immersive, transformative experience for students and staff alike. Students engage in authentic service and experiential learning. As they embrace the rich culture, language and traditions of India, they learn to identify, analyze and respond to community needs. During my time with ICU2, 2008-2020, I witnessed the growth and development of students as caring leaders and global citizens. ICU2 inspires and motivates students to take their learning to the next level.” Margaret Peyrard, former Head of International Section at Ermitage

“They’re not the same afterwards…”

“They return transformed”

“I experienced a profoundly special feeling when understanding was reached with each of my patients. It was a phenomenon difficult to articulate, but it can be best described as a ‘click’; a momentary and humbling connection that washed away all apparent differences between this complete stranger and me.”Jeanne

“Experience of a lifetime…”

“It has taught me to think about those who surround me, who live a simpler and happier life than those who only think for themselves.”

ICU2 Stories

“This project has changed my life dramatically by knowing that I am changing people’s life. As a crowd controller I’ve learned to be patient and to never give up on my ideals of justice. Even the smallest gesture of empathy (a smile for example) can create a significant reaction on the other person. This is only a minimum part of all I’ve learned.”

Kimberly

“Through this project, we’re not only helping people with little things that we take for granted, but these simple things completely alternate their life. Although it does take some effort from our part, it’s nice to know that what we do actually affects at least a few people.”

Louise

“It’s amazing to help people in need. They have nothing but they smile and are so cheerful. It makes us realize that we take things for granted home.” Marianne

“It is an honor for me to be engaged with a rapidly developing community. From Hong Kong to Paris and to Indore is definitely an eye opening journey. The intense shift of social features has significantly deepened my understanding regarding the value of humanity, especially when I see the smile on the children’s faces.”

Ulysse

“This experience of the eye camp was one of the most satisfying experiences I have ever had. The feeling after registering more than 2000 people and the fact that you actually helped for the better gives me complete pleasure and happiness. Yes, it was tough. Yes, there were times when I wanted to give up. But now when I look back, it was all worth it. I have learnt a lot from this experience – patience, tolerance, the idea of keeping someone else’s wants above yourself and so much more. This was the best experience I have ever had and the memories of this camp will always be cherished by me.” Khanak

“The ICU2 2014 was truly a memorable experience for me and everyone. During this eye camp, we’ve learnt a lot about the Indian culture, lifestyle and customs. We’ve been given the opportunity to help the people of Indore with ocular complications and have provided them with spectacles and cataract operations. This year, due to our great team coordination we’ve been able to help more people than ever before. This eye camp is an event that I’ll remember for a very long time.”

Asuin

“I never thought that this camp would change my life as much as it has. Knowing that our actions are completely changing the lives of people has altered the way I perceive things. Though it is very tough and tiresome, it always pays off. Seeing how happy people are after they come to the eye camp is proof of that.”

Axel

“The eye camp was an opportunity to explore and discover myself, while aiding and discovering others. I now deem it as a success. It has also been a cultural and environmental exploration. I gained lots of knowledge about India and its people. Finally, the experience of helping such a large number of people as a team has been and will be unforgettable, just like the smiles on everybody’s face.”

Adam

“This project has helped me gain confidence and I learned to be patient by seeing and registering a thousand people a day. And I have much more respect for poor people. I got to know more about them and their courage. They have to come here and overcome the problems they have, however handicapped they are.”
